About the artist:

KseJuMa is a contemporary artist based in Moscow. She completed the Free Workshops educational program at the Moscow Museum of Modern Art (MMOMA).

At the core of her practice are inner states, processes of transformation, and the ways lived experience and environmental influence reshape one’s perception of self and the surrounding world. She is interested in making visible processes that cannot be directly observed: psychological change, memory, adaptation, the aftereffects of traumatic experience, and the formation of new connections.

KseJuMa works across painting, object-based art, photography, sculpture, and installation, using wood, leather, silicone, textiles, thread, and mixed media. Her choice of material is closely tied to the concept of each series and often involves a degree of unpredictability, allowing the material itself to become an active participant in the artistic process.

In the series Beneath the Skin, KseJuMa uses Xylochromia, an artist-developed technique based on water-based wood stains. Their interaction produces organic structures that evoke microscopic tissues and internal systems. The artist establishes the conditions in which the form emerges, but does not fully control the final result.

Other projects use bodily imagery as a familiar visual framework for addressing invisible psychological states, memory, protective mechanisms, rupture, and the rebuilding of connection with the outside world.
