Irina was born in Russia in 1962. She represents the third generation of artists in her family. In 1981 Irina graduated from the Yaroslavl Art School, founded by her grandfather, Sergey Arsenyevich Matveev. She worked as an illustrator for a book publisher. She has lived in Israel since 1990. Her works are represented in the Museum of Russian Art in Jersey City, USA; the Latvian Museum of Naive Art in Riga; the Tula Museum of Fine Arts; Galerie Natalie Boldyreff in Paris; the Tribes Gallery and Egozi Gallery in Tel Aviv, Israel; and private collections in many countries. Irina says: “I use images of animals to tell stories about people and, of course, about relationships between men and women. After all, we are all a little bit animal... The pyramids I create have a philosophical and spiritual concept that reflects the balance of opposing forces in human life. Every element of a pyramid is a symbol and a hint. For example, a bird symbolizes spirituality, and a key is an answer to questions. The paintings emphasize humanity’s pursuit of harmonious development. All elements of a pyramid are interconnected, yet every viewer can find their own relationship among those elements.”
