FAQ — frequently asked questions
Here you can find answers to questions frequently asked by ArtOnline users.
Answers
Why did I receive an email about a guestbook message that is not visible in my account? Spam bots sometimes post guestbook entries or artwork comments. We remove such messages as quickly as possible, so the notification may arrive before the spam is deleted. Can a gallery submit information for the Galleries and News sections? Yes. Send the gallery name, description, photographs, contact and address details, and, if available, a location map to our email address. You may also submit relevant news and articles. Publication is free. How can I disable comments or email notifications about comments? In your personal account, disable “Allow comments” for the relevant artworks. To keep comments enabled but stop email notifications, open your profile settings and disable notifications about new comments. How can I delete a comment on my own artwork? Open the Comments section of your personal account and use “Delete this comment” next to the relevant entry. An artist may delete both their own comments and comments left on their artworks. How can I remove the “Order a copy” option? Open the artwork editor in your personal account and disable “An artist’s copy can be commissioned”. Why can some of my artworks not be commented on? Open Personal account → Artwork list, edit the relevant artwork, and enable “Allow comments”. This setting is configured separately for each artwork and is also available when adding a new work. How can I make my artworks more visible on the site? Participate in constructive discussions and keep your gallery active. You can also use “Move artwork to the top” once per day to return a work to a prominent position in the latest-artworks list. How can I publish photographs of my work, and what does it cost? We accept visual art, decorative art, and fine-art photography. Register as an artist, complete your profile, and add your works through the personal account. Publication is free; a commission may apply when a sale is completed through ArtOnline. How does buying and selling art through ArtOnline work? Open an artwork page and use the available purchase or enquiry action. ArtOnline receives the request, verifies it, and connects the buyer with the artist or representative so they can agree on payment and delivery. See How to buy an artwork for details. Why is my guestbook entry not visible immediately? Guestbook entries are post-moderated to reduce spam. The message appears after approval by the guestbook owner or the site team. How can I ask for the price or order an artwork when no price or Buy button is shown? Some artists do not publish prices. Use “Ask a question about the artwork” on the artwork page. ArtOnline will forward the enquiry to the artist and reply when information is available. How can I remove one of my artworks from the site? Open Personal account → Artwork list and use the delete action next to the relevant artwork. How are artists selected for the recommended-artists section? We recommend artists who keep information current, communicate responsibly with customers, fulfil their obligations, and inform ArtOnline about completed transactions. The selection is based on practical cooperation and reliability. What is the reproduction-ordering option shown on some artworks? ArtOnline can arrange reproductions as posters or prints on canvas when the artist has enabled this option. See How to order a reproduction. What is the artist rating and how are points calculated? The rating is calculated automatically and reflects activity and reliability. Factors may include visits, published and removed works, constructive comments, favourites, completed sales through the site, compliance with the rules, and support for ArtOnline. Violations reduce the rating. Some anti-abuse parameters are intentionally not published. A higher rating can improve visibility and unlock additional site features. What are comment ratings, and what do they affect? Users with the required site rating can evaluate comments. These votes affect the author’s reputation and encourage useful, relevant discussion. A good comment is original, readable, relevant, and respectful. Spam, advertising, insults, copied material, meaningless messages, and attempts to provoke conflict are rated negatively and may be removed.
