Алексей Малых-Васильев родился 7 мая 1961г. После службы в армии в 1981 году переехал в Ленинград, где поступил вольнослушателем в мастерскую профессора Академии Художеств им. И. Е. Репина Мыльникова А. А. В 1985 году поступил в Академию Художеств им. И. Е. Репина на факультет живописи, который закончил в 1991 году по мастерской Фомина П. Т.
